These are secretly inducing your acne!
“And one fine and important day, I woke up with an adult pimple at the centre of my face!” Relatable? Well, pimples surely have their ways. Don’t you worry, so do we.
Apart from the common causes like climate, pollution and genes, there are a number of things that induce acne but are surprisingly less known! Are you having acne because of them too? Read on to know more.
And before you move ahead, time to clear a basic confusion that a lot of people have between acne and pimples. They are indeed linked but the difference is that acne is a disease and pimples are one of its symptoms. Acne is a condition affecting the skin’s hair follicles and oil glands.
Under your skin, your pores are connected to glands that make an oily substance known as sebum. When sebum and dead skin cells clump together, they block the follicle. Bacteria in the block causes inflammation, leading to red pimples in acne.
1. FACE BRUSHES
Face brushes can be amazing but not until you’ve passed the “adjustment period”(initial 3-4 uses). Once your skin adjusts, there’s no going back! Till then, let’s hang in there!
2. MASKS also cause Acne
Noticing zits or small pimples in the chin/ cheek area? Maskne might be the thing! While we can’t avoid masks, we can easily avoid Maskne (yeah!!) by using salicylic acid-based cleansers! Also, like all other skin issues, hydration helps this too!
3. OILY HAIR
Yes, it’s real – your hair health affects your breakouts! Oil takes no time to seep onto your face and clog your pores, resulting in acne. You’d also like to be cautious of hair products containing oil.
4. DIRTY PILLOWCASE
If you thought pillowcases are low maintenance, no! In fact, they need to be washed every 3-4 days to get rid of the bad guys! You might also switch to a satin/silk pillowcase as a gift to your skin and hair!
Have you been stressed out lately? Because that can definitely be a cause for sudden breakouts! Basically, when you stress, your skin produces cortisol, which, in turn, stimulates oil glands to make testosterone which increases oil production and leads to clogged pores. Just in case you thought the perfect catch-22 situation didn’t exist.
6. TOUCHING YOUR FACE
*Sigh* yes, even this isn’t allowed. Though it can be tempting, touching your acne will mean inviting more acne ( if not scars!) Only touch your face with cleansed hands and at other times, avoid as much as possible!
7. MAKING OUT
You see, your dude’s beard mightn’t always go easy on your delicate skin. The friction caused can often lead to increased oil production resulting in blemishes!
Unsurprisingly, your delicate skin can often react to leftover detergents on fabrics. So, if you’ve recently changed detergents, you know what’s the bad guy, right?
No, scrubbing isn’t bad but over scrubbing def is! Rough scrubbing causes trauma to your skin, giving rise to further breakouts.
10. SLEEP DEPRIVED
Getting enough sleep has numerous health benefits and good skin happens to be one of them. Sleep is a time of rest when the cortisol levels ( hormone competent of causing acne) decrease!
11. CELLPHONES cause Acne
We use cellphones throughout the day, everywhere and put the same ones in contact with the skin. The habit even sounds acne-ish! The solution’s easy though, clean your phones every 2-3 days and you’re good to go!
Also, don’t forget to do the same with any other devices *earphones peeping* that often comes in contact with your skin.
12. NOT REMOVING MAKEUP
Cleansing- A step we can’t afford to skip( but end up skipping occasionally anyways!) Always remove your makeup before bed because if you don’t, it will make you pay with a full face of acne! Besides, you don’t really want the pollution and dirt of the whole day sleeping with you, do you?
