Lesser known facts about “Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai”

A show that almost everyone has heard of, a show that all the aunties love and the kids are sick of watching. “Yeh Rishta kya Kehlata hai” is a show about two joint families. The story revolves around Akshara Maheshwari and Naitik Singhania. The reason they marry after their advisor approves this marriage. So, they end up having an arranged marriage, they eventually end up falling in love.

They go through a lot of issues as they have to live in a large family, to top it off they are parents of young kids. There are stories of other relatives such as cousins and other family members. During the 7 long seasons, the plot of the show keeps changing, all the way to the next generation.

Now the plot revolves around the married life of Naitik and Akshara’s daughter Naira, and her husband, Kartik Goenka.

The Plot

The show starts when Maheshwari is trying to find someone compatible with her daughter, Akshara. Eventually, she ends up liking Naitik Singhania, they get married soon, Her brother Shaurya gets married to Varsha. Rashmi who is Naitiks sisters, Rashmi, and Nandini also get married soon after. Akshara has a baby boy, Naksh.

• For the past 11 years, the show has been doing so well, It is the first show that has the highest TRP ratings in the last 3 years. Just proves that it’s good!

• Here is something interesting, When Rajan Shahi, the man who created the show was thinking of a name, he came up with at 4 am, and later on at 8 am the channel creepily enough suggested the same name. What an interesting coincidence.

• Karan Tacker was initially picked for the role of Naitik, but he refused to be a part of the show a day and a half prior to the promo shoot. Producer Rajan Shahi met Karan Mehra accidentally and found him to be an exact fit for the role of Naitik.

• The show started in 2009, the only two shows that broke the records of the TRP were, Bidaai and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. These shows were considered so amazing that everyone loved them!

• The 4 main characters hail from 3 states in North India. Hina from Srinagar, Karan From Delhi, Athar From Punjab, and Pooja from Delhi.

• Yeh Rishta kya Kehlata hai, the show is shot in Udaipur just like Bidaai, the show.

• Amardeep Jha has acted in both these widely popular shows, Bidaai and Yeh Rishta Kya Hai.

• To have a lucky start to the show, Alok Nath has done the voice-over in the beginning. He is producer Rajan Shahi’s lucky mascot.

• The role of “Dadi” in Yeh Rishta kya Kehlata hai was played by Alok Nath’s sister.

Facts on Mohsin Khan

• Mohsin Khan plays Kartik Goenka was a very shy kid. Can you believe that? no, we don’t either. During his school years, he was an extremely shy kid, someone who didn’t speak a lot. He was one of those guys, who was too shy to talk to girls, I think we all know a guy like that! To play this role, he had to open up and let go of his introverted personality. Now he’s got girls dying to be with him, look at him go. So proud of him!

• He started acting at a very young age as well. For all those who wanted to become actors at a younger age, well Mohsin just might be an inspiration for you as he started acting when he was just 18. He started your career and he just never looked back and surely there is no reason why he should. He is an amazing actor, his acting seems effortless, the fact that he’s so good just shows that he had started young. 

• Mohsin is very scared of riding bikes as he has had a horrible bike accident before. So for every scene in the show, the bike is just being pushed around. He would always use a car even in the show as he was comfortable driving a car. 

• He used to be very scared of dogs as when he was a kid he was bit by one, but now he is has conquered his fear. 

• He doesn’t like to smoke or drink. He cant stand the smell of smoke either. 

• He earns around 30,000 to 40,000 per episode. 

• He is also known for how much he experiments with his hair. He used to shoulder length hair when he was a school kid, he was studying engineering but then later on in college he went bald. Definitely, someone who loves to experiment a lot. Pretty cool.

• Mohsin once got into a street fight. The fight led to a mark on his forehead. That incident changed him as he decided not to take it lying low and now he carries a stick with him in his car at all times.

• Mohsin Khan started his career by working as an assistant director and now look at him! He came into this industry by working in the 2nd AD in the 2014 feature, Koyelaanchal. This very talented young man loves to write in his free time. He is definitely a man with a lot of talent. 

Facts about Shivangi Joshi

• Shivangi Joshi who plays Naira Goenka is very health conscious and is obsessed with being fit.  She loves it so much that she works out constantly because she has to maintain her figure after all. Those who follow her know that she is a fitness freak as she keeps posting videos of her working out. She is 24 years old and is definitely really fit. She even tells her fan about her routine, and what she does to stay fit.

• She started her career with the show” Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi” in 2013.

• When Hina Khan quit the show, she became the main face of Yeh Rishta kya Kehlata hai.

• Shivangi Joshi is a trained Kathak dancer. Yes, she didn’t really need to take a lot of dance lessons whenever she has to perform on the show as she can already dance so well. The fact that she is so graceful shows in her role as well. Yes, she loves traveling as well but her love for dance is just as much. 

• Mohsin and Shivangi were dating each other in real life. Although for the longest time they kept denying it, however, when it is out in the open, they admitted dating each other. Unfortunately, by the end of 2019, they called it quits and made the breakup official! 

• Shivangi has appeared in several TV commercials as well.

• She was at the 50th position in “50 Sexiest Asian Women in the World 2018”.

• Shivangi and Mohsin both have won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the best actress and actor in 2019.

• By the age of 20, she had already won awards in Star Parivaar Awards and Zee Gold Awards.

Facts about Hina Khan

• Hina Khan who also plays an important role in this show has been on the news ever since she left the Star Plus show, Yeh Rishta kya hai. All the fans of the show miss her as she played the role of Akshara for almost 8 very long years. She was the very definition of the character and no one can replace her. 

• Hina Khan actually wanted to be a Journalist. Before getting into acting she went to Mumbai just to become a journalist. And look at her now, She is someone who is remembered as Akshara Singhania. She wasn’t able to become a journalist, she then tried to become an Air Hostess, she couldn’t give the exam as she ended up getting Malaria. She then went to an audition after her friends insisted she does so. She got selected and she was extremely shocked.  She then becomes an amazing actress. 

• She has an obsession with Taavis, she takes it along everywhere with her. She always has it in her wallet. She considers this a good luck charm and yes no doubt she has been on the air for almost 8 years on “Yeh Rishta kya Kehlata hai”.

• She won the award for Best Actress in 2014, the most prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award.

• She is a Kashmiri and currently lives with her family in Mumbai.

• She is a foodie, even though her figure suggests otherwise but yes she loves eating and experiment. Her favorite food would have to be Mughlai.

Bonus Fact: Origin of “Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke”

On completion of 10 years of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, a spin-off series “Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke” was launched in March 2019. The Rhea Sharma and Shaheer Sheikh starrer series is the story of Naman and Karishma’s daughter and Naira’s younger step-cousin Mishti.
