How to manage stress due to Work from Home

We are close to completing a year since the lockdown and also since we started working from home. The inability to move out freely has taken a toll on our health. Not only we can see changes in our physical bodies but also in our mental and emotional health. However, it isn’t just the pandemic, the stress due to Work from Home is another big concern for many.

Here are a few tips to keep your cool and handle the situation better as you continue to work from home.

1) Take a deep breath and a chill-pill

First of all, accept work from home as a reality and realize that you have to learn how to be efficient at it. That would also mean that you have to find ways not only to do your work but also to be happy as you work from home. Staying calm and taking deep breathe is important to stay healthy and work efficiently.

You can do meditation, yoga, or anything that makes you calm and takes you to your happy place. Staying calm is the first step towards destressing and controlling Blood pressure.

2) Speak-up if it’s getting too much

Work from home has provided a safety net for everyone and almost all of us have been benefitted from it otherwise also. However, for some of us, the workload has increased a lot ever since work from home became common. Some of the professionals are working 12-14 hours a day and even on weekends.

The only solution is that you speak up and tell (politely) your superior(s) and HR department that you are stretched to your wit’s end. It is absolutely fine to inform them about your stress levels and demanding for some peace of mind.

3) Connect with colleagues as you used to before the lockdown

We are locked inside our homes mostly and while the business is going on we all miss our gossip breaks at the office. The chai-soota breaks and impromptu dinner/pub plans with colleagues make work fun. All isn’t lost yet, you can still plan a zoom/gmeet call with your friends from work for a musical night where each one can enjoy their drink at their home and also sing and perform together or solo on the call.

You might miss meeting your friends, but that doesn’t mean that you have to miss the fun also. So go ahead and organize a video meet today itself and invite your friends for another impromptu fun evening.

4) Eat healthy to stay healthy

Let’s agree that there is no alternative to staying healthy in these challenging times. So don’t forget to eat your veggies cause right now we must concentrate on boosting our immunity and keeping ourselves healthy to survive through the pandemic. Eating vegetables and fruits and following a diet can help us prevent stress eating and control our blood pressure.

5) Burn those calories.

Eating healthy is a step towards controlling stress and blood pressure but you need to exercise as it is not just beneficial to you physically but also refreshes your mind, helps you destress, and controls your blood pressure. Try using some at-home exercises to stay fit during the work from home period.

6) Distraction is the Cure.

Sitting in a place and getting bored is really, keeping yourself distracted like reading, playing ludo, carrom, etc can really boost your mental health and give you the ability to skip the ticking of the clock. No stress = control stress.

7) #ForwardMatKar

Social media is used as a coin, one side is for getting information and connecting with the people while the other is to spread rumors and create chaos. It’s best to take advantage of social media or the internet and visit authentic sites. Even various Celebrities have come forward to fight these rumors by the #forwardmatkar on Twitter.

Also, avoid checking messages on and contributing to Whatsapp/Telegram groups where religious/political discussions or other controversial topics are being discussed. These discussions help no one but cause stress to everyone.
